Supporting students with mental health issues

How can I support students with mental health issues?

Teaching staff repeatedly encounter students whose behaviour raises questions or gives cause for concern: withdrawal, frequent absence, emotional outbursts or unusual communication. In such situations, many teaching staff ask themselves similar questions: Should I say something? How should I address the topic? What if I am unable to cope?

This website and the Guide for teaching staff: supporting students with mental health issues” are intended to help you better assess such situations, consider initial steps and become familiar with appropriate points of contact.

Important: This does not in any way replace the expertise of qualified mental health professionals.
